Housing is the biggest cost of living in Toronto. These are the average asking rents in the Toronto area published by Statistics Canada for Q2 2026, the price people ask for a place that is available to rent. Utilities may or may not be included.

The City of Toronto measures the cost of healthy eating every year with the Ontario Nutritious Food Basket. For a person living alone and cooking at home, the 2025 basket costs CAD 436 a month between 19 and 30 years old and CAD 412 between 31 and 50. It covers groceries only, not eating out or personal care items.
An adult fare costs CAD 3.30 with PRESTO or a credit or debit card, and it includes two hours of transfers. Since September 1, 2026, the TTC no longer sells the regular monthly pass: after 47 paid trips in a month, the rest of the month is free, so daily riders pay at most CAD 155.10. Full-time students at participating colleges and universities can still buy the post-secondary monthly pass for CAD 128.15.
